BRIDGE PROGRAMMES

Bridge programmes are delivered as whole class sessions and are designed to prepare students for transition. These sessions last for one hour per week for thirty six weeks. NEST's aim is for students to achieve one National Award per term, linking in real life military experiences as examples to support learning and to promote positive male role models within the community.

The core business of NEST is in delivering National Awards in First Aid, National Navigation Awards and the Playmaker Leadership Award.

Bridge programmes support development of self esteem and self belief through the session content and delivery and through students physically achieving National Awards on a  regular basis. This also has positive links to attendance, attainment and student aspirations which supports transition.

Testimonials

"It has been fantastic to see how the work Mr Vince has done with the Year 4 children has helped to develop their confidence and self-belief. They have beamed with pride when receiving their awards for each section of the course completed. The work Mr Vince has done with them has linked to many areas of the curriculum e.g. orienteering and presenting skills during group work and it has been thoroughly beneficial for them to do this work in meaningful contexts. The children have thrived on the various challenges and it has been clear to see their confidence blossom and develop further. This has set them in excellent stead as they make the transition into different schools".

Jennifer Burns

Year 4 Teacher.
My daughter engaged immediately with the NEST programme and has thoroughly enjoyed the First Aid Training, Navigation and Leadership Skills. However the most surprising benefit of attending the NEST programme has been the development of my daughters self belief. My daughter initially struggled with anxiety when asked to stand up and talk in front of her peers. NEST provided the perfect environment and tools to enable her confidence and maturity to grow at an alarming rate. In such a short time span my daughter is now able to talk confidently about her new skills. I would thoroughly recommend NEST for all children who are about to move to middle school or any transition.
