THE STORY ABOUT US

North East Skills Training (NEST) is an innovative educational provider that draws on military values and ethos to deliver Belief and Bridge Programmes as well as bespoke events and experiences to all ages. Most of the work NEST provides has been in the form of lesson cover (PPA) or after school clubs.  We have also ran one off days providing orienteering experiences, archery, climbing and other team building activities. NEST also continues to provide introductions to the great outdoors, wild camping, climbing, guided walks and more recently we have started to make the links between this and mindfulness.

Andrew Vince

NEST was formed in 2015 by Andrew Vince.

Andrew left the Army after more than ten years service, which included extensive operational, travel and training opportunities. He then went on to work for a range of organisations providing training, teaching and social care for children in crisis.

His initial skills lay with adventurous activities, and now he has incorporated classroom based teaching and coaching techniques which he has used to support children in crisis, develop individuals and support other teaching establishments with their child development. Andrew draws extensively on his own real experiences to relate his life skills teaching to his students. This has been well received by pupils and staff within the schools he has taught and continues to teach in. For some schools this is their third year of provision for pupils ranging from Year 3 to post sixteen.

As a father of two, Andrew continues to nurture and develop his own children using the outdoors and his coaching experience.

In addition to Andrew's extensive school teaching experiences, he has also had the privilege to introduce novices to the great outdoors. Andrew has taught and assessed basic expedition skills, hill safety and navigation. He has taken adult participants on micro adventures, introducing them to the knowledge and equipment required for remote or local area overnight camps. Andrew is a keen wild camper himself, with more than 25 years of global experience to draw on, and a Duke of Edinburgh assessor to Gold level.

Testimonials

"Had a fantastic time with North East Skills Training!!! Andrew went above and beyond in ensuring my first wild camping experience was a one never to be forgotten. He is very understanding and provided a wealth of information in regards to gear, food, weather and most importantly keeping safe in the outdoors. The knowledge and stories he shared about the area, flora, fauna etc was tremendous. Andrew is very friendly and highly entertaining, which helps put you at ease when you are learning the skills that you might be nervous about! A big thank you Andrew! - because of your expertise I now feel confident enough to venture out wild camping on my own. I will definitely be back for another adventure soon"

"Having worked for some time now with North East Skills Training it is fantastic to see the effect their programmes have had upon our students. The team at NEST are superb at building relationships with all ages and their programmes have clearly supported all in building self belief, confidence, resilience and pride. I am confident in saying NEST have given all our students belief in themselves during transition into other year groups or schools. I would recommend NEST without any hesitation."

Headteacher, St Aloysius Primary Federation.
My daughter engaged immediately with the NEST programme and has thoroughly enjoyed the First Aid Training, Navigation and Leadership Skills. However the most surprising benefit of attending the NEST programme has been the development of my daughters self belief. My daughter initially struggled with anxiety when asked to stand up and talk in front of her peers. NEST provided the perfect environment and tools to enable her confidence and maturity to grow at an alarming rate. In such a short time span my daughter is now able to talk confidently about her new skills. I would thoroughly recommend NEST for all children who are about to move to middle school or any transition.
